We are in the mist of a serious bear rally right now and I don't wanna be one of the suckers that overexposes on the short side and gets ran over as so many have. Neither should you.
The bear rally of the 1929 crash retraced almost 50% before crashing again! I think we are getting to that point, but maybe 1050, 1100 on the S&P before total bear capitulation.
Either way, keep the positions small for now and stick to high-prob setups like Condors and Calendars IMHO.

Yea, I have toned down my positions and sold some premium to change it up instead. I may scale down even further into next week as Friday was again not good at all. :-(

The bears are still alive, although there aren't many left, which I think may signal an overall reversal.

Ben, everything you said, DITTO! I exited another position today (with a very tiny loss, thanks to KEE!), but I have not made ANY money this month! Sheesh!

The good thing is that the experience that I've gotten in these last 6 months has saved me this month from being wiped out. Once the market started whipping around, I went almost all to cash, no questions asked. So I'm down only a very small amount in my account this month. However, it is frustrating nonetheless. Right now, it seems that I'm participating in trades moreso for the learning than for the profits because I've been getting a LOT of the former and not much of the latter. Again, KEE has saved my newbie butt several times.

We'll see what happens...

Ben, I may be sitting out today, too, if this volatility continues. I mean, I don't necessarily mind paying for high option premiums if I still feel that I can be profitable... but with all this whipsaw action, it's hard to be profitable.

I am thinking about a few of the tickers they threw out on the 'Cast: specifically MS and FAF. Both look pretty good to me. We shall see...

You are too kind Krystal, I am glad it was helpful though! That is what I love to hear is people benefiting from my blog and hopefully profiting, or at least not losing money.

I may start day trading in this environment, just because I am partly curious to see how successful I can be if I do it consistently and due to the market conditions it makes more sense.

WOW! What an excellent and helpful post! The diagram was great! The way you drew the lines and labeled them was very helpful.

You know, I was thinking about day trading instead of swing trading right now because of the market volatility and whipsaws. But in light of Jeff's video and how he stressed the importance of being at the computer, I don't think that's for me since I'm at home with the kids.

BUT, I'll tell you where this will help me: taking profits! I recently took profits on DSX (before it started to tank), and on the day I took profits (10/18), it was about midday, and my target was reached, so I took one contract off the table. However, by the end of the day, had I waited, I would have made more money. But, my thinking on that day was: My target's been reached and the stock might retrace at some point later in the day. So I took profits.

However, today I went back and did a 1 minute chart for that day, and I was able to draw in a diagonal trendline that acted as support for the ENTIRE day that day. So, had I known this on that day, that would have helped me!

I find it SOOOO fascinating that technical analysis can work for ANY time frame, don't you!?!? Wow!

This was such a helpful (and enlightening) post! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

When choosing a stock to day trade, what do you look for? I have to assume volume and ATR, because you need that sucker to move and move NOW! Hey, you've only got one day, right?

But what else do you look for? Do you use any particular time frame chart? 10 days? 60 days?

Also, how do you select your option? ITM, ATM, or OTM?

When do you enter? Within the first hour of the trading day (that's a sin, you know!)? :) How do you determine that you've gotten a valid entry signal?

Do you use charts from the previous few days to determine near term support/resistance?

Okay, surely by now I'm getting on your nerves. I'll stop now!... until I start again!

Yep! I am only in stocks, not options..self directed IRA. Currently I sold Hans for a nice profit and Pot for some solid gains.

Only company now is Manitowoc..just added shares this morning around $38 a share. Will be added to S&P 500 on Nov. 15..huge play in global infrastructure as they are the leaders in large cranes. And undervalued, in my opinion.

Krystal, no, no engagement, in fact far from it although who knows what the future holds. Just met someone really awesome, and things just really clicked in a short time period. :-)

But, back to trading haha, yea we'll see what happens, if I am in all cash tomorrow that will be the most messed up thing because everything points to down and all I have left are puts but watch them go up.

We shall see, really wishing I still held those SPY puts, haha.
